Holding onto anger is like grasping a hot coal with the intent of throwing it at someone else; you are the one who gets burned. – Buddha
“If you want others to be happy, practice compassion. If you want to be happy, practice compassion.” HH Dalai Lama
So in my struggle for compassion … I’m practicing..
Last night at yoga my intentions were to be present and I asked for compassion. We focused on mostly hip openers so it was easy to be present since each pose required concentration in breathing. The compassion bit was harder. Even in savasana I tried to delve inside to parts that were bothering me; to bring light but it was all I could do to not laugh at the sound of what sounded like snoring from others. So today I was still bothered and this morning after voicing my frustration a friend shared this exercise with me.
With focus on “Name”
“Just like me, this person is seeking some happiness in his/her life;
Just like me, this person is trying to avoid suffering in his/her life;
Just like me, this person has know sadness, loneliness, and despair;
Just like me, this person is seeking to fulfill his/her needs;
Just like me, this person is learning about life.”
And just like that I started feeling better……
